Linka from Sovjet Union in this Captain Planet Intro

In the 1990s there was a huge focus on the enviroment and so tons of cartoons with that topic came out. Captain Planet is one of them together with Widget that I have also have mentioned below.

In the intro for Captain Planet you can clearly hear that Linka is from Sovjet Union. That is a bit special as the cartoon was created before 26th of December 1991. The whole world was invited to fight for the climate. But today we’re still doing to little

Do you remember Captain Planet?

This was back in the day when cartoons tried to teach something. This show became the forerunner for Al Gore and many people that cares a lot for our beautiful earth.

“Our world is in peril. Gala, the Spirit of the Earth, could no longer stand the terrible destruction plaguing our planet. She sent five magic rings to five young people: Kwame, from Africa, with the power of Earth. From North America: Wheeler, with the power of Fire. From the Soviet Union, Linka, with the power of Wind. From Asia: Gi, with the power of Water. And from South America: Ma-Ti, with the power of Heart. When the five powers combine, they summon Earth’s greatest champion: CAPTAIN PLANET. Go, Planet! The Power is yours!”

These words together with the brilliant intro made me interested in the show and the topic that this show had. It was an eyeopener for every teenager and adult that sat and watched the episodes together with them.

Because of Captain Planet. Families all over the world had the world as a topic around the dinner table. The most epic and best version was made between 15th of September 1990 until 1992. After that Hanna Barbera made a version, but that one was never aired here in Scandinavia for some reason?

CPF Foundation was Founded because of Captain Planet back in the days

The Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) was founded in 1991 when series producer Barbara Pyle negotiated a percentage of the show’s merchandising revenue to empower young people. The concept allowed schools and organizations around the world to present their environmental projects to the Foundation and receive seed money to grow their ideas.

Then back in 2001, Time Warner decided to shut down the CPF due to a challenging merger with AOL. Laura Seydel and her husband Rutherford Seydel worked with Time Warner to orchestrate the transition of the corporate foundation to a public charity which was the Captain Planet Foundation.

In 2007, the Captain Planet Foundation acquired the rights to exhibit previous episodes of Captain Planet and the Planeteers online and on-air, thus “allowing this valuable resource to reach out and educate the children of today!” As of 2017, the organization’s board is chaired by Laura Turner Seydel, daughter of Ted Turner; the board includes Barbara Pyle.

Captain Planet is together with Widget two amazing planet saviors. So now we need to help nature together and not destroy the world that we love. We need nature to survive.

How about you? Did Captain Planet change your view?
